According to Rene Meza, Managing Director for Vodacom Tanzania, the company will provide the necessary telecommunications services to over 460 rural villages which span over 70 wards. According to the company, the number of citizens that will benefit from the telecommunications project will be close to 1-million.
“The tender was issued by the Universal Communication Services Access Fund (UCSAF) as part of the Tanzania Communications Infrastructure and e-Government Project (RCIP Tanzania) funded by the International Development Association,” the company explained.
Vodacom Tanzania is only one of a number of companies that pitched for a number of tenders, and the total tenders approved by the Universal Communication Services Access Fund spans 152 wards, targeting about 1.6 million people.
“UCSAF was established to promote universal access to information and communications technology in the country in order to promote social, economic development in both rural and urban underserved areas,” Vodacom Tanzania said in a statement.
