Tanzania: Huawei launches Ascend Mate 7

Huawei has launched its Ascend Mate7 in the Tanzanian market. According to Peter Zhang, Huawei Country Manager: “The recommended retail price of the smartphone is about TZS 1 million and it will be available in most key retailers.”
The Ascend Mate 7 has a slim 7,9mm, ergonomically curved design made of an aluminum alloy that weighs in at only 185g.

The standard Ascend Mate 7 single SIM model is offered with 2GB RAM and 16GB of on-board memory in either moonlight silver or obsidian black. The premium version of the device features 3GB RAM with 32GB memory and is a Dual SIM device that is available in amber gold.
One of the Mate 7′s latest features is a new single-touch fingerprint technology that combines with Huawei’s next evolution of EMUI 3.0 user interface. The Mate 7 also features LTE connectivity as well as an Octa-core (1.8GHz A15 + 1.3GHz A7) processor, depending on country and region.

BBC launches Ebola information service on WhatsApp

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has launched an Ebola information service on the popular multimedia instant communication platform WhatsApp.

The corporation said the service is in English and French languages. It will provide public health information on Ebola from the BBC, using audio, text message posts and images. Furthermore, the service would deliver Ebola-related breaking news alerts to subscribers.
Other features of the service include News About Ebola, a news and information programme broadcast twice every weekday, the focus of the programme is on the affected region of West Africa. It would also feature Ebola Infos, a twice-daily Ebola bulletin in French on BBC Afrique, and increased partnerships with other broadcasters.
Director of the World Service Group Peter Horrocks said: “This outbreak of Ebola shows no signs of abating. Myths and misinformation about Ebola are still widespread – and life-threatening. The BBC is trusted by millions of people in the affected countries, so we are stepping up our efforts to reach people with timely information, whether they’re listening to the radio, watching TV or using chat apps. We’re committed to playing our part and will continue looking at new ways to reach audiences, for example by developing programmes in local vernacular languages.”

Huawei introduces new technology gadgets

CHINESE leading information and communications conglomerate, Huawei has introduced ultra-modern electronic gadgets including 4G mobile handsets, intelligent video surveillance and tele presence video conferencing.



Speaking in Dar es Salaam over the weekend during a short ceremony to introduce the gadgets, Huawei Technologies Tanzania Company Limited Channel Executive, Moses Hella, said their latest ICT, security and conferencing technology serves all sectors of the country's economy.

"We have everything for everyone, 4G mobile handsets for individuals and mobile phone service companies, push to video technology for security companies and data center innovations for enterprises," Mr Hella said.
He further noted that Huawei has also brought latest green power innovative technology for solar power. "Ministry of Education has already purchased a tele-presence technology which allows video meetings involving real people and not the existing video conference technology," Hella noted.

In a statement, the Chinese technology giant said the road-show in Tanzania has brought convergent communication solutions and philosophies to enhance brand and industry leadership.

"During the Roadshow we will introduce the concept of ICT transformation, infrastructure transformation and business operation transformation, in addition to highlighting the benefits of our Value Growth Solution (VGS) which helps customers to improve income, increase efficiency and enhance user experience," the company said.

Among other brand products, Huawei said its innovative soft mobile solution in the radio access is a future proof deployment for 10 years evolution in wireless field with blade RRU, Adaptive Antenna Unit (AAU), AtomCell, Lampsite, Cloud BBU and Single Radio Controller (SRC).

One of the fastest growing high-tech companies in the last 20 years, Huawei is the second largest telecoms equipment business globally. Huawei is a major global multinational and leading ICT solutions provider employing 150,000 people in more than 140 countries.

Europe is Huawei's second largest region after China and it generates around 70 per cent of global revenues are generated outside China led by Europe.

WorldRemit, Tigo Tanzania in mobile wallet deal

Online money transfer service WorldRemit has partnered operator Tigo Tanzania to allow individuals sending money to friends and family living in Tanzania to have the funds delivered to a Tigo Pesa mobile wallet.

The deal is available for customers sending money from the 35 countries in which Tigo has a presence, with the companies saying the deal complements existing receive options such as bank transfer, cash pickup and mobile airtime top-up.
“I am delighted that WorldRemit is now able to offer Tigo Pesa as a way of receiving money in Tanzania. Today people use their money in lots of different ways and financial services need to respond to that,” said Ismail Ahmed, WorldRemit chief executive officer (CEO).
“At WorldRemit we aim to give people as many money transfer options as possible, from bank accounts and cash pickup to mobile wallets and airtime top-up. This is the sort of choice and flexibility that people demand in a modern, connected world.”
WorldRemit is an online service that allows people to send money around the world quickly and at low cost, using a computer, smartphone or tablet.
Migrants from Tanzania sent US$75 million home in 2013, according to the World Bank, with the same research finding remittance payments to Tanzania from overseas had more than doubled since 2008.

Earlier today, Huawei unveiled its next top of the range Smartphone, the Huawei Ascend P7, to the world. The Ascend P7 was one of the heavily leaked Smartphones of 2014 and we knew most of the features it has even before we saw it. This new Smartphone is supposed to take over from the successful Ascend P6 that was unveiled last year.

The Ascend P7 has a 5-inch 1080p LCD screen with a pixel density of 445ppi. The Ascend P7 is considered to be one of the thinnest Smartphones currently in the market measuring 6.5mm. The front and back parts of the Ascend P7 are covered by Gorilla Glass 3 for a more stylish look.
Inside the Ascend P7 sits a 1.8 GHz proprietary quad core CPU made by Huawei, 2GB of RAM and  16GB of internal storage. A 2500mAh battery sits at the back to provide all the juice needed to power this device.
The Ascend P7 will come in three colour options of white, pink and blue black and will have Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box. It will be available in selected markets as from June 7 for EUR 449 (approximately Kshs. 54,000)
