Tanzania: Telecommunication Service Providers Must Toe The Line

The country’s Minister of Communication, Science and Technology, Professor Makame Mbarawa as saying that telecommunication service providers who provide inadequate service to consumers, without a valid explanation, could face a penalty of fines or imprisonment. 




Addressing parliament, Minister Makame Mbarawa announced impending fines of up to TZS5 million (US$3,074) for poor quality of telecom services without proper explanation to subscribers.

Mbarawa explained poor of quality of services discouraged investment in the country as companies hold telecoms accountable for service delivery through service level agreements.

The Minister said that the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority had formally communicated with the company and requested an explanation as to what measures the company will take should the situation reoccur writes Tanzania Daily News.
