Mobile operator Globacom has launched a mobile newspaper in Nigeria,
which will provide subscribers on the network with news and updates from
around the region.
“We are glad to announce to our esteemed subscribers the birth of
Glo-Mpaper, a service that supplies news from local and international
newspapers to subscribers over SMS and WAP (Wireless Application
Protocol). The beauty of this service from our stable is that beyond the
immediacy of delivering the news items as they break, users can
subscribe to at least three different newspapers,” said Globacom’s
Coordinator for Marketing, Adeniyi Olukoya.
The service will costs N50 per week, and “all a subscriber needs to
do to access the service is to have a basic handset with Globacom
connection. As soon as the pre-paid customer confirms his subscription,
the relevant charge will be automatically deducted from the current
balance, while a post-paid customer will have the charges added to his
or her monthly bill, the company said in a statement.
The newspaper will feature a number of categories, which users can
change as many times as they wish. The service will also be available to
any brand or model of handset, while users don’t need a GPRS connection
to access it.
